Call for Change

Updated: Jun 9, 2020

These are some trying times in our Nation. We are in the midst of a global pandemic, the likes of which we have never seen before. This has caused real pain, anxiety, suffering and death to families and businesses in every community. But we are also dealing with the tragic death of George Floyd involving four police officers in Minnesota, which unlike the pandemic, is something the black community has been dealing with for decades.

In the midst of all this, we have a real opportunity for change. We have an opportunity to join with one another and say enough is enough. Today, the Hoops For Youth Foundation is in strong support of the message that has been voiced by the black community against racism and brutality within our justice system. We also want to state our support for those police officers who serve and protect. Those who put their lives on the line each and every day to protect us and our communities.

The answer to racism is simple: treat everyone equally as individuals. As simple as the solution is, the conversation around the issue of racism is more complicated. We have a real opportunity to begin this discussion and begin changing the culture in every community. To do that however, we need to begin listening to each other and seeing individuals for the people they are and not by the color of their skin.

The Hoops For Youth Foundation supports those fighting against systemic racism within American institutions. Through this process we have been inspired and encouraged by those peacefully protesting and speaking out in every community across the country. We ask everyone to look inward, to learn, and examine our own institutionalized racism.

Change comes when we all take the time and begin learning from one another. Change comes when we stop and begin really listening to one another. Change comes when we stop and begin to understand the challenges persons of color face in this country. Then, and only then, can we begin to achieve equality for all.

The Hoops For Youth Foundation is committed to being part of the solution and working with those who are interested in bringing about real change. We don’t have all the answers, but we are prepared to learn and work with those in the black community on solutions that save lives and bring value to every person!
